ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
John Robert Lewis was an American civil rights leader and politician who worked in the United States House of Representatives. Often called "one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced," John Lewis dedicated his life to protecting human rights, securing civil liberties, and building what he called "The Beloved Community” in America. Throughout the course of his life, John Lewis was a dedicated advocate of the philosophy of nonviolence and was arrested more than 40 times and endured physical attacks and injuries.
